Taipei 101 used to be the tallest building in the world for many years. It's sheer size is overwhelming as it looms over Taipei. This is truly Taiwan's icon. It's a spectacular engineering accomplishment. Anyone who visits Taipei or Taiwan for that matter should definitely check it out for the sake of checking it out. Sure, the designer stores inside are for the rich or those wanting people to think they are rich, but beyond that the city views and distant landscape gives you a great idea of how truly spacious this region is despite being an island. The best time to visit is when the sun is setting because it will allow you to see night time and day time scenes. Be prepared to wait a while if you come during the weekends. Tickets are bought on a queuing system. ---------------------------...

At 5 pm on June 5, there were six successive executions in Taiwan. Since they happened so close after the brutal slaying of a schoolchild, some thought they were done to quell public anger over the recent murder. But Minister of Justice Luo Ying- shay stressed these were not necessarily related.

On this edition of Taiwan Outlook, Mr. Deng Chen-Chung, who is currently the Minister Without Portfolio of the Executive Yuan, talks about the steps to implement the New Southbound policy in Taiwan.
Finally I made it to Wanli to check these out - sadly Taiwan's larger and more famous pod village in Sanzhi has long since been demolished. I wasn't expecting to see that some of these houses, though not the iconic yellow ones, have been renovated and are being used again. It's a nice area apart from the abundance of mosquitoes, though it seems like a massively over-ambitious project from a time when there can't have been much demand for a resort like this. The second 'UFO' house I went inside seemed to have been squatted in recently from the coins and clothes lying around. The whole complex is surprisingly close to a lot of other, more modern developments and a popular beach. TAIPEI — Would you fancy doing it in a prison cell? Are you into carousel horses or turned on by Batman? The wild themes featured in Taiwan's love hotels have no limits and can offer a wide range of options able to satisfy every taste. But it's not only the crazy themes, the hot tubs, the private swimming pools or even the private karaoke that make them appealing. The extra privacy is also something customers might specifically be looking for. And Taiwan love hotels are now able to satisfy them. iMore for example, outside Taipei, offers privacy services such as covering visitors' license plates to avoid detection by spouses or private detectives. Hotels personnel are also also carefully instructed to ask suspicious people or cars spotted around the buildings to leave the site immediate...

Inside Ba Gua Temple, Taiwan, Nov 2009 (The least artistic view -- and by that, I mean my amateurish camera shot!-- EVER... sorry...) View from one of the upper floors inside the Ba Gua (Eight-sided) Temple in Taiwan, November 2009. You missed the first part because I forgot to push record. A girl was coughing without a mask. Yucky. If you are riding the mrt in Taiwan and are sick, please wear a mask. I have gotten sick multiple times. I always wear a mask on the MRTs, trains, and busses. ALWAYS wear a surgical mask. Asia is densely populated, and people get sick a lot in close quarters. I was crossing the street earlier, and a guy coughed in my face, no mask. I tried to get around him, but there were too many people. I love Taiwan. Just be prepared for this as part of the culture. Surgical masks, Taiwan, mrt, trains, Taipei
